Hi folks – just a brief update from us as we wanted to share a couple of things coming up, a more detailed newsletter will follow in the autumn...

Family summer

Thanks to all those who prayed for Hannah this summer – the GCSEs seemed to go well and we await the results – and for Ruth’s mum, Celia, who had unexpected heart surgery and is now recovering well.

We’ve just come back from a fab week’s holiday in Cornwall, for which we are really grateful and especially for the gift that helped pay for our time away (“thank you” if that was you!).

Big Tent this week

This week Hannah, Tom, Matt and Andy are working with the churches in Wellington on The Big Tent. Almost 100 children are signed up for the 3-day holiday club event. Please pray for all involved this week and especially for the many families we connect with.

A new role for Andy

We’re excited to officially announce that I (Andy) will be taking on a new full-time role in the Diocese of Bath & Wells from 1st September. After interviews last month, I have been offered a full-time post in the Diocese’s new ‘Go Team’ as Youth & Children’s Work Adviser for the Taunton Archdeaconry. It seems like a real God-thing for us: a job that we didn’t think would exist without us moving from Watchet, where we still feel very much called to be. I am excited about stepping up to the new role, part of a team of 3, and taking further many of the initiatives I have been working on but over a wider area. For those with a knowledge of places in Somerset, the ‘new patch’ includes Wellington and Tone Deanery where I currently work plus Ilminster, Crewkerne, Taunton itself and Bridgwater as well as the area around Minehead, and Watchet where we live.

In terms of Watchet we remain very much planted here as family and blessed to be part of the WBC family. After nine years (where did that time go?) we sense a new phase in our life and work here. Ruth remains on the leadership team of WBC as a Deacon and will continue to pursue various creative and community aspects of the church’s outreach balanced with being ‘mum’ first. Andy will continue as a volunteer youth leader as well as supporting the local churches in their work with young people and schools as part of his new paid role. Our new minister Mike Sherburn and the family moved in to the Manse around the corner a few weeks ago and we look forward to journeying with them (Mike officially starts in September too).

We’d really appreciate your prayers as we step into the next phase of our life and work here and adjust to some of the new challenges this will bring. We continue to be hugely grateful for all your support, prayers and blessings. Above all we praise God for his faithfulness and provision for us as a family.

More news in September!
