Music and singing form an important aspect of our services as we come together to worship God. As it says in the Psalms:
“Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song”
A blended approach is taken combining traditional hymns with more contemporary worship songs, so that people of all ages may be able to engage and draw near to the father heart of God.
At any one time, we have a core set of fifty or so hymns and songs which have been carefully selected to reflect what is happening in our church community in that season and to compliment the teaching programme. My hope and prayer is that using songs which become familiar over an extended period will help to facilitate deeper and more intimate times of worship. In most services, the majority of songs are chosen from the core set, but we always include two or three other hymns or songs to ensure the music stays fresh.
“Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord”
At SHBC, we are blessed with a group of dedicated musicians and worship leaders who, between us, play keyboard, guitar, drums, clarinet and sing. In the past, we have also enjoyed the talents of a wide range of musicians including those who play saxophone, flute, violin, cello and trumpet!!
Morning services are led by one of the Music Leaders, usually with the band, and are generally fairly ‘upbeat’, whereas afternoon and evening services are more intimate and the musical worship reflects this.
I am always keen to hear from individuals who have a desire to use their musical talents to bring glory to God. If you attend Station Hill regularly and would like to find out more about how the music team operate, then I would love to hear from you. All that is required is a willing heart, commitment to sing/play at least once per month (including rehearsals for the relevant service) and, of course, a certain level of competence in your instrument. I am particularly keen to hear from younger musicians, but all are welcome.
